New "shooter" from Konami: Otomedius
Thanks to Gamefront we have news of a new 2d "shooter" from Konami named Otomedius. Shooter tends to cover everything from Time Crisis to Doom to a real shmup, so wait a few days for the AOU to confirm that Otomedius is something we should get excited about.
If true, this would make the first new shmup series from Konami since......well, since a LONG time. Still no Axelay 2 or new Gradius yet though.

The gameplay looks vary Gradius-ish. Could this be the next Parodius, in some sense? Looks like it. I hope for the best.
I guess you'd have to include this in the Gradius series, since it does have a powerup bar, and it ends in DIUS....hmmm..
What interests me is that I hear this game will have touch screen features, an online arcade high score ranking table, and also downloadlable arcade content, such as new levels. Konami seems to be breaking new ground again.
This would make for an interesting port in the future.
Extremely doubtful that Konami of America will release this here in any form. They have a history of keeping their cutesy games in Japan. Thank god for mod chips.
