Ether Vapor power UP!

It's difficult enough just to find all the doujin shmups that exist on the web without keeping track of when each of them updates, so if I mention a version up here in the news, you know it had better be important. And this one is. Ether Vapor has been upgraded in a MAJOR way, and has impressed the hell out of me. I would now call it a cross between Einhander and Thunderforce 5 - that should be enough to get you to download the web trial version - which I can't believe is only 15 megs with all this polygon action going on!

Some of the features of the update include character interaction during cutscenes, a bonus level where you shoot down as many Robotech-style missile barrages as you can, more levels, minibosses, and bosses, increased lighting and particle effects, and lots of camera rotating level intros. The team at Edelwiss has kept the horizontal-to-vertical view switching between areas, one of the features I liked in the early build of the game. This is one of the best doujins I've played in a while, do yourself a favor and try out the demo from here. I can't wait for the finished version!

That game is pretty awesome. It has a Sky Swimmer's Heaven-meets-Raystorm feel to it.
